Last Evening of Jewish Chant Feb. 22WITH SPECIAL MUSICAL GUEST AMIR O'LOUGHLIN

Lorne Mallin is leaving Vancouver to volunteer with the Abayudaya Jewish community in Uganda and may be abroad for up to two years. Join him and Vancouver musicians Amir O'Loughlin and David Embry Solest on Sunday, Feb. 22, at our last Evening of Jewish Chant until Lorne's return. You're invited to linger after for tea and cookies. Regular percussionist Russell Shumsky will be playing Denver that night.
The practice of Jewish chanting is a vehicle for prayer, healing and connection. The chants are composed from a short phrase of sacred text with a beautiful melody. The most powerful moment of the chant happens in the silence that follows. The chant inclines the mind toward a state of consciousness that can be accessed in that moment after the chant. Lorne's teacher, Rabbi Shefa Gold, says that we can "enter through the door of a chant into the depths and vast expanse of the silence."
